Two-way Interpreting

The aim of this course, is to pay specific attention to how you are reflecting the example ‘two-way conversation’ provided. Look at the strategies you may need to incorporate to ensure the ‘turn-taking’ aspect needed to reflect the participants accurately to the audience as well as managing interjections and overlapping conversation

Formal Register

This course focuses on the use of formal registers in spoken English and BSL. This encourages interpreters to pay specific attention to the words and phrasing choices used when interpreting between spoken English and BSL in formal settings.

Informal Register

This course will support interpreters to improve their informal register in spoken English and BSL. Interpreters will learn to self-monitor to assess the words and phrasing choices used when interpreting between spoken English and BSL in informal settings.

Interpreting the Police Caution

This course has been designed specifically to provide qualified interpreters working in police settings with some useful ideas and strategies for making the police caution clear and accessible for deaf people in custody.

Conversations

Interpreting conversations between two people using the same language can be challenging. This course helps interpreters to identify how they incorporate role shift and characterisations in the example ‘conversation’ helping interpreters to ensure the target audience is able to differentiate between the two speakers.
