Management Team

Clare Vale

Managing Director
Clare is the Managing Director and has been with the company since January 2005.
She manages all of the departments and reports frequently to the non-exec director. Clare’s professional background is in accountancy, which is where she started her career as Finance Manager. Clare enjoys the fast paced working life at Sign Solutions, where each day brings a new and exciting challenge. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and keeping fit with Zumba, swimming and walking.

Sean Nicholson

Non Executive Director & Interpreter
As founder and now Non Executive Director of Sign Solutions, Sean, based in Warwickshire, has been able to watch the company grow from a small seed into a blossoming tree branching out in many directions.
Sean qualified as an interpreter in 1991 and is a registered Expert Witness. Not wishing to forget his roots, Sean still enjoys BSL interpreting assignments. He strives to work directly with the Deaf Community as much as possible, be that a 15 minute doctor's appointment or a training course.
On his precious days off, he enjoys spending time with his family, taking every opportunity to travel, and likes to wind down with a glass of wine.

Business Development Team

Adam Breeze

Business Development Manager
British Sign Language is Adam’s first language and he is keen to support the Deaf Community and development.
He will be focusing on expanding our customer base through the services on offer at Sign Solutions and has a background in management.
He has a passion for football, futsal and adventure. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, he also takes every opportunity to travel and explore!

Sophie Kang

Business Development Manager
Sophie joined Sign Solutions in August 2019 as Business Development Manager. She will be focusing on expanding our customer base through the services on offer at Sign Solutions.
Sophie studied British Sign Language and Deaf Studies at University in Preston and has a background in sales and management.
Outside of work Sophie enjoys spending time with friends and family on her pink sofa and ending a dog walk with a glass of wine at the pub!

Phoebe Capewell

Social Media & Marketing Manager
Phoebe is the Social Media & Marketing Manager for Sign Solutions.
She has a Visual Communication; Film & Animation degree, has worked for the BBC as a Photographer and enjoys videoing people.
Phoebe likes fashion, beauty and tattoos! In her free time she loves to travel around the world and visit spas.

Jessica Breeze

Operations Administrator
Jessica first joined Sign Solutions as a Project Manager. This involves coordinating interpreters with assignments. Jessica’s professional background is in Training and office management. Jessica is now the Operations Administrator and supports the implementation of InterpretersLive! and assisting new and current clients.
In her spare time, Jessica enjoys spending time with her family, reading, films and socialising with friends.

Kim Dobbs

Operations Administrator
Kim started working for the company in February 2005.
Kim supports the implementation of the InterpretersLive! video service, assisting new and current clients. She also assists with ISO audits and co-ordinates the NMH student support and any bespoke training requests.
In her spare time, Kim takes an interest in classic/sports cars and is a member of the Sporting Bears Car Club which raises money for children’s charities.

Bookings Team

Charlotte Boyce

Agency Manager
Charlotte is the Agency Manager; as well as being line manager to the booking team, she also deals with bookings herself and provides support to clients at all times. She has worked at Sign Solutions since 2006.
In her free time, Charlotte enjoys skiing and canoeing whenever she gets the chance, as well as walking her beloved dog.

Karen Stephenson

Agency Administrator
Karen joined Sign Solutions in 2019 as an Agency Administrator which involves the provision of full administration support to Interpreting Agency team.
Karen’s professional background is in office and grants management.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, socialising with friends, eating out and going to the cinema.

Melanie Harris

Project Manager
Melanie works for Sign Solutions as a Project Manager, after freelancing for three years as a Communication Support Worker via Sign Solutions. She enjoys her role as she is able to combine her organisational skills along with her passion for BSL.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, holidays abroad, reading, nice wine, cross stitch, watching movies and walking her dog “Mini”.

Project Manager
Caitlin joined Sign Solutions as a Project Manager in 2019, this involves coordinating interpreters to attend assignments.
Since graduating in Translation studies at Aston University, Caitlin has enjoyed working as a project manager coordinating and delivering translation projects.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and cats, travelling, photography, and learning new languages.

Finance Manager
Clare joined in October 2016. Clare deals with all finance related queries.
Clare’s professional background is in finance and office management, across many businesses but started in construction.

Daniel Foxall

Accounts Assistant
Daniel joined Sign Solutions in January 2013 and his role here is Accounts Assistant to the Finance Manager. This involves processing invoices, carrying out credit control, doing payment runs, among other duties.
In his spare time, Daniel enjoys playing golf and going out with friends.

Kate started working at Sign Solutions in 2019.
Kate has worked across a variety of industries including hospitality, horticulture and engineering. In her spare time Kate loves spending time with her young family and enjoys yoga, walking and reading.

Chris Addison

Credit Controller
Chris joined Sign Solutions in September 2017, with a wealth of experience in accounts and bookkeeping.
When she is not performing the role of Credit Control in the Accounts team, she likes to walk and spend time with family and friends.

The Interpreting Team

Karen Nicholson

Head Interpreter
Karen, based in Warwickshire, has been a qualified interpreter for over 25 years.
Karen qualified as an Internal Quality Assurer in 2012, which allowed her to have a key role in the assessment process for NVQ.
When she is not interpreting, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and taking long, relaxing (sometimes strenuous!) walks. Karen is married to Sean Nicholson, Non Exec Director of Sign Solutions and is co-owner of the company.

Amanda Bruce

Interpreter
Amanda joined Sign Solutions team as an in house Communication Support Worker in 2019.
Amanda started working as a CSW for the Deaf in 2002 supporting Deaf adults with learning difficulties before transitioning to a freelance role working for Sign Solutions.
Amanda enjoys playing crown green bowls, country walks with her dogs and spending time with friends and family.

Amanda Thompson

Interpreter
Amanda joined Sign Solutions in early 2020 as an in house TSLI based in the North West of England.
Amanda's love of Sign Language began at the early age of Eleven, many years later after meeting a deaf individual Amanda decided to attend evening classes to obtain her Signature qualifications. Since then Amanda’s passion and confidence has lead to her being the first student to graduate for a BA (Hons) in BSL at University of Central Lancashire.
In Amanda’s spare time she volunteers yearly for a Deaf Rally event and enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Karen Hall

Interpreter
Karen started life as an interpreter in 1994 and qualified as an RSLI in 1998. During that time she gained experience and additional training. In 2000 Karen became a freelance interpreter and started to accept more legal domain interpreting assignments gaining experience within legal and Mental Health settings.
Karen, in her free time can be found on the allotment or catching up with friends and family.

Jacob Bevan

Interpreter
Jacob is based in Bristol and studied the Interpreting (British Sign Language/English) course at the University of Wolverhampton.
He has experience working as a CSW in education and has recently achieved his TSLI qualification.
During his spare time, he enjoys gym training, cooking and spending quality time with family and friends.

Christine Jones

Interpreter
Christine is originally from Ipswich in Suffolk, moved to Wolverhampton for University in 2007. She studied BA(hons) Interpreting (BSL/ English) and successfully graduated in 2012. She really enjoys her work and supporting students with their study.
In her spare time Christine enjoys photography, going out with her dog and socialising with friends.

Conor Mitchell

Interpreter
Conor is based in Bridgnorth and studied the Interpreting BSL course at the University of Wolverhampton. He has achieved his Level 6 in British Sign Language and is now undertaking the part one Level 6 interpreting Diploma.
At Sign Solutions he loves supporting students with their studies and previously he worked within secondary schools as a CSW.
In his spare time he plays table tennis in local leagues, likes going to the gym, travelling and socialising with friends.

Deborah Batchelor

Interpreter
Debbie grew up with profoundly Deaf parents; this led to her working within the Deaf community. She has worked as a CSW since 2004. Debbie began working for Sign Solutions as a freelance CSW in 2016 but has recently joined the team as an in house CSW.
In her spare time she likes to keep fit, read and most of all she spends quality time with her family and friends.

Carol Spencer

Interpreter
Carol grew up with profoundly Deaf parents, in a strong local Deaf community. Growing up in this environment enabled a natural development into a career spanning almost 30 years. Initially as a CSW but progressing into interpreting and other associated roles. Carol is looking forward to working for Sign Solutions as an in-house interpreter
In her spare time she likes to don her muddy boots and go exploring with her dog. She also supports the running a new Deaf Covid impact group of which she is the founder.

Simon Johanson

Interpreter
Simon is based in Northamptonshire although comes from South Wales and started learning sign language in 1993 at the age of 15. Qualified through Sign Solutions in 2005 and since has worked in a variety of settings, including legal, mental health, media and community. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and is currently learning Welsh.

Carleen Collins

Interpreter
Carleen began working with the Deaf community 25 years ago, as an educational Communication Support Worker in London.
After spending a few years working as a community interpreter in Nottingham, she returned to Cornwall in 2000, where she has worked as a Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI) ever since. In her spare time, she is involved with the local Deaf Children’s Society, and enjoys spending time on the beautiful beaches in Cornwall, with her children and dog.

Lynne Clarke

Interpreter
Lynne is based in the North West. She started to learn sign language in 1989 and has worked as an interpreter for over 28 years and have been qualified for over 16 years.
Lynne is passionate about working for the Deaf community and in her spare time she enjoys running and boxing!
