Deaf Awareness Training Courses
E-learning Course
Sign Solutions’ recently launched Deaf Awareness e-learning programme is the first Deaf Awareness course available completely online. It is split into five bite-sized modules, each lasting approximately 30 minutes each and incorporating a rich variety of knowledge-enhancing tasks. The modules are enriched with challenging and exciting methods of learning, including multiple choice quizzes and video presentations. You can even experience real-time interaction with the Deaf Tutor via webcam, and participate in lively discussions on our web forums with fellow learners.
App
We also recently launched our new app, BSL Sign & Spell, which aims to increase national Deaf Awareness. It is a step-by-step guide taking you through the finger-spelling alphabet. Each letter is demonstrated in video by a Deaf presenter, guaranteeing accuracy and authenticity, including close-ups of each individual hand movement – straight on and from the side – so you can get it just right. As if that wasn’t enough, there is a quick quiz after every 5 letters so you can check your progress as you go.
Signature Level 1 Deaf & Deafblind Awareness Training (2 days)
This nationally recognised qualification is designed to give learners an introduction to, and a basic knowledge of, the entire range of Deaf and Deafblind people.
The qualification is made up of two units: K101 (Deaf & Deafblind Awareness) and T101 (Communication Tactics with Deaf & Deafblind people). These are undertaken over the course of 2 days, with a written exam at the close of day 2.
One-day/half-day Deaf & Deafblind Awareness Training (Sign Solutions Accredited)
A programme resulting in a Sign Solutions’ Certificate of Attendance for all participants. This can be either a half-day course, or it can be spread over a whole day with more time spent on communication tactics.
This course is delivered by our Native Deaf tutors. Sign Language interpreters will be provided free of charge for the course duration. Training can take place at your premises or our own.
Visual Impairment Awareness Training
There are approximately 309,000 people that are registered as having a significant sight loss in England. Appropriate training is essential for any organisation to successfully meet the needs of this group of people.
Sign Solutions’ training course challenges preconceived notions about the nature of visual impairment, provides an insight into the different types of sight loss that people experience and offers practical advice and skills for successful interaction and communication with those that have reduced or no vision.
